Zachary McDonough
For most of his life, Zachary has found ways to help the community via fundraising walks, planning fundraising events, cooking/serving food to the needy, and more. He describes helping others as “his passion and calling.”
Over the past few years during his time in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, Zachary had learned of the struggles of people in Eastern Kentucky, where many working-class Americans are forced to live in dilapidated homes and unacceptable conditions. Kentucky serves the unemployed Americans with public assistance via welfare and food stamps yet neglects the working-Americans with below the poverty line salaries. However, a non-profit organization named Good Neighbors seeks to provide aid to these people by bringing in volunteer groups to repair their homes.
The Neilom Foundation is providing financial assistance for Zachary to work as a staff member during Summer 2020 in aid to Good Neighbors. Zachary notes, “When I picture my future, I envision myself running a non-profit of my own one day. At this moment, I am not sure which specific need my non-profit will aid, but I would like to think that its impact would compare to what Jason and the Good Neighbors Team have.”
